Sometimes, I complain about the weather in the South.  I think all of us do.  If we're not tired of the rain, we're tired of the heat or the humidity.  Summer can be pure misery; but every once in a while, things come together for a truly perfect series of days.  This week looks like it might just measure up to perfect.  Cool days and even cooler nights, married to low humidity makes for lots of great hair days and everyone knows how much we Southern girls love great (big) hair days.

You all know by now, I am the worlds worst blogger.  I have pledged to myself, though, that I am going to get better.  If I can spend an hour pinning stuff to my Pinterest boards, I can surely find time to type a few words right?  So, here goes nothing.  Stay tuned.

Well, another year has come and gone...I have the bags under my eyes to prove it.  Christmas was hectic and crazy and tiring, but I am so thankful that we were blessed with a wonderful holiday season.  We're still learning the ropes of this thing called retail, so I must thank everyone for being so patient with us and continuing to support our little shop.  I think I'm about to get it together and for once, not forget where I put it.

Lots and lots of fun things are on tap for the next few weeks.  First is market in the ATL.  We're following that up with a book signing by local Fairhope author Sheila Booth Alberstadt.  Her hilarious series of hygiene books feature a girl named Maggie McNair who just isn't a fan of bathing or brushing....anything.  Sheila will be at the Nest on Saturday, January 21st from 11 until 2.  We're excited!

On another note, I am sad to report that the addictive personality I was sure I did not have, has surfaced.  I am now convinced that drugs come in many forms and PINTEREST is one!  Someone stop the pinning! I have found millions of things to do and create and wear and on and on and on.  I am also randomly addicted to Stumble Upon.  I have the app on my iPad and my laptop.  I may need therapy soon.

Y'all take care and look for my next blog post in just a few short months...I can't mess up my record...

Well, Happy Fall, y'all!  Such as it is in the Deep South.  You know our Autumn experience is deemed a success if we go all the way through November with no hurricane and an SEC team is on its way to the National Championship.  No beautiful foliage, no chilly nights toasting stuff on a campfire, but at least at Christmas we are usually running around in our shorts and sweatshirts not shoveling six feet of snow off the driveway so our kid can ride their brand new bike with their gloves on so their sweaty hands don't stick to the handlebars (yes that was a run-on sentence, but I had to say all of that in one breath).

The store is doing well.  I can hardly believe it has been ten months since I opened.  Don't get me wrong, some days during the summer were SCARE-EE.  Where did everyone go?  Then it hit me that they were where I would have been if I didn't have to show up here every day.  Sitting on a beach eating some sandy potato chips and listening to their kids complain about being everything from tired to hot to cold to bored.  Oh, how I miss those days...

I am glad all of you are back and most of you have managed to keep your sanity through a summer spent chauffering your kids around trying to enrich their minds and keep yours from taking you on a trip down to "Mykidsaredrivingmecrazy" town.  Time to start working on fixing up your casa for the inevitable holiday party or visit from your Mother-In-Law...or worse...both.  Don't forget us down at The Nest.  We are definitely your headquarters for gifts, but did you know we have dinnerware (you need an awesome, but not too fussy, holiday table), fun kitchen gadgets, lighting and accent pieces.  Check a few things off of your To-Do list and come down to see us!  We'll leave the light on for ya!

Finally a place to call my own...

Well, at last the store is open..after only six months...WHO KNEW? I can hardly believe it took so long, but with much help from parents, husband and friends, not to mention a new location; the door finally got a swing in the proper direction. There are so many people to thank; I couldn't begin to name them all.

Christmas was crazy! I was overwhelmed, so excited and above all, thankful. After enjoying Christmas morning with my beautiful babies and husband, I couldn't help getting a warm fuzzy when I thought of all the people opening gifts from the shop that day.

I am new to this blogging thing, but promise to be more diligent about it from now on. I have so many ideas floating around in my head, I definitely need somewhere to put them all. This is the perfect place. I can even add photos! How exciting for those of us who get it all together only to forget where we put it. I really did that at Christmas. I bought some things for my husband and hid them so well I still haven't found them. I pray I am not the only one who does that.

Anyway, today is sunny and beautiful and it's time for me to rush to the shop and re-do my door for Valentine's Day. I hope life brings beautiful things to you and your Nest today!

Peace

How can renovations possibly take so long...AKA WHEN ARE YOU GOING TO OPEN?

The eternal question I have been asked lately is..."When are you going to open?"..well, first, dear reader, I must apologize for the delay. Little did I know that the departure of my Mamaw would result in a complete meltdown of time and renovations and life in general. We have plans to do a soft opening later this week with a real life Grand Opening to follow.

I have so many unique and wonderful things in addition to some well known and loved brands like Uglydolls, MOGO, and Tokyomilk. I can't wait to get everything finished...ceiling tiles on Monday...set up to follow!

More to come tomorrow...I hope!

Life unscripted...

Well, this past weekend taught me that I can actually adjust to an even larger dose of complete chaos than I previously thought. My grandmother, who is dying from liver cancer, took a terrible turn Saturday evening and we are looking at what is definitely the end. It is a devastating blow for me since she is more like a second mother than a "grandmother". I spent not only my childhood in her company, but much of my adult life as well. She potty-trained my kids, fixed boo-boos, made chocolate milk by the gallon, gave sage advice, scolded, loved, and cemented our family together for what has been my life. I will be sad to see her leave, but glad she will be whole again never to suffer the indignities of this life. I will miss asking her questions, having her teach me to cook and, most of all, watching her play with my children who dearly love her and have been so blessed to spend a small portion of their lives with her.

I'm still working at the store and things are on track for us to open within the next two weeks. Forgive me if my blogs are few, things are just hectic. Most of all, thank you for reading and following this blog! Maybe when things calm down a bit, I can start posting some fun stuff...

Peace.

Happy Friday!

Today was not a store day, it was a day to tend the little birdies I have been entrusted with. I went on a field trip with Mary-Katherine, but I managed to fit in a few orders while I was riding the bus. We have some beautiful pillows coming to the shop soon and a great line of children's games.

I hope you guys will comment and let me know what you think about the posts and if you want to see photos...

Goodnight! I hope someone is reading this...
